RVS staat voor roestvrij staal en is een legering die hoofdzakelijk uit nikkel, chroom, ijzer en koolstof bestaat. Er is pas sprake van roestvrij staal wanneer er 11% tot 12% chroom en maximaal 1,2% koolstof aanwezig is. Een RVS staaf is hitte- en zuurbestendig en wordt veelal toegepast in interieurbouw, maar keert bijvoorbeeld ook terug in de chemische industrie.
